HSK 2: My little cat
I had a little cat. Its name was Little Black because it was black. My little cat was very cute and small, only as big as the palm of my hand.
My little cat liked eating fish and sausage. It often jumped on my desk and looked at me. I often took it in my arms and touched it.
In the winter, my little cat often slept in my bed and meowed when it wanted to eat. I liked my little cat very much, but it died later. I was so sad that I buried it. I hope Little Black has a good life in heaven.

When it comes to autumn, the first idiom that comes to my mind is “refreshing in autumn.” In northern China, after the start of autumn every year, you can feel a marked temperature change, not so hot, but slightly cool, especially in the morning and evening. The midday sun is bright but no longer scorching. If you travel to northern China, you’d better not miss September and October because you can experience the beauty of autumn to the fullest. The sun is warm, and the breeze blows. Riding a bicycle leisurely wandering in the street and appreciating the scenery is a very comfortable thing!

Today, we will learn a fable called “It’s sour grapes.”
There lived a fox in the forest.
One day the fox came to a prairie and found a vine. The vine was covered with clusters of bright, fragrant grapes. The fox thought: The grapes must be sweet and delicious! He looked at the grapes, licked his tongue, and slobbered.
The fox wanted to eat the grapes, so he quickly reached out to grab them. But the tree was too high to reach. So, the fox jumped up and grabbed the grapes with his hands, but he could not reach them, and he only caught a few leaves. I wish I could climb trees like a cat, he thought. The fox tried several more times, but he still could not reach the grapes. Next to him, the rabbit, the deer, and the other animals laugh at the fox as a fool.
The fox was tired, sweating, and panting. He said to himself: “The grapes are not ripe, and they must be very sour! They won’t be yummy.” And he went home dejectedly. As he walked away, the fox looked back at his beloved grapes and felt sour. He comforted himself by saying, “These grapes are not ripe. They must be sour.”

The new norm of hybrid working
Hybrid working, also known as hybrid-remote working, refers to individuals, teams, or organizations working on-site or remotely. In other words, the office locations switch between the office, the home, and the third space.
Thanks to hybrid-remote working, fewer employees come to the office. So companies can cut costs by downsizing or retrofitting offices with co-working spaces and meeting rooms. Meanwhile, employees can work remotely, so companies can significantly expand their talent pools. For employees, they can choose office locations and working styles according to their personal preferences. They also have more job options due to the unrestrained geographical location.
Both remote working and hybrid working benefit from the technology of ABC — artificial intelligence (AI), Big Data, and Cloud. The boundaries between work and life, business and entertainment, business and consumption, and work devices and personal devices are increasingly blurred. And people increasingly expect their work to be flexible, autonomous, and transferable across time (work and life), location (workplaces), and devices (mobile phones and computers).
Mixed working has been around for a long time, but it has become widespread as the new normal with the outbreak of the COVID-19 and the accompanying telecommuting experiment. Since 2005, Microsoft has allowed employees to work anytime and anywhere as long as they complete tasks on time. For example, in Microsoft 2021 Work Trend Index released in April, 66 percent of employees surveyed said they wanted their company to keep telecommuting as an option.
A new word related to hybrid work is hybrid team. In the new work mode of a hybrid team, some team members work remotely, while others work together in an office or somewhere else.
Of course, hybrid working is not without its drawbacks. Not everyone can work from home. Therefore, mixed working patterns may result in socioeconomic and racial inequality.
